Matilda "Tillie" Farrugia Meehan

MEEHAN, Matilda "Tillie" Farrugia, 85, departed this life on January 30, 2014. She was born and raised in Syracuse, N.Y. and spent most of her adult life in Richmond. Tillie was a dedicated member and librarian of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. She also worked tirelessly as a library assistant at the Bon Air Branch of the Chesterfield County Public Library for 33 years.

Tillie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Martin J. Meehan; her sister, Jean Farrugia; and brothers, Joseph Farr and John Farr. Survivors include her five children and their spouses, James and Beth Meehan, Michael and Jill Meehan, Kathy and Mark Beall, Peggy and Mike Cerreto and Patrick Meehan; 10 grandchildren, Mark Jr., Sarah, Mike, John, Chris, Thomas, Kelly, Pat, Meredith and Annie; two great-grandchildren, Jack and Gavin; sisters, Hilda Prior and Rozie Piston; and many nieces and nephews. Tillie was a kind, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, mother-in-law and friend. She always put her family first and unconditionally supported them through their formative and adult years. We will dearly miss you Mom!

Her remains rest at the Huguenot Chapel of Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Rd., where the family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
