Mernita "Pat" Mabel Young

YOUNG, Mernita "Pat" Mabel, 90, of North Chesterfield, passed peaceably at her home on October 16, 2014, surrounded by loving family. Pat was born and raised in Highland County/Marshall Township, Ohio. She was married to John O. Young Jr. for 66 and one half years at the time of John's passing in 2009. Pat's children are, Patricia A. Martin (Jim), J. Robert Young (Terry) and H. Leon Young. She retired from Arlington County Schools in 1988. Pat loved to work with children at both her work and her church. She was a member of Etowah United Methodist Church in Etowah, N.C. before moving in with her son, Leon, in 2006. She was Past Matron of Winchester Chapter No. 188, Order of the Eastern Star, and served as District President. Pat loved to read, do word searches, be outdoors, camp, play golf, but most of all, spend time with her eight grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Her sons and grandsons remember the hours she rowed a boat and fly fished with them. Other grandsons remember Christmases at Grandma's as a time to relax, building fires in the fireplace with Grandpa and making potato candy with Grandma. Recently, she watched her two great-granddaughters follow in her footsteps excelling at fast pitch softball. A funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Huguenot Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Rd. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service.
