

Michael Alon Bickel, age 78, passed on April 15, 2026. Born July 12, 1947, Michael was a resident of North Chesterfield, Virginia.
Michael is survived by his spouse, Anita Stillman Bickel; son, Charles Richard Bickel (Elizabeth Bickel); daughter, Dana Bickel Jones (Patrick Jones); grandchildren, Anthony and Elijah Coward, Chase and Austin Bickel, and Arthur Jones.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony Aloysius Bickel and Vera Beth Gordon Bickel; grandfathers, Clarence Arthur Bickel and Merit Ezra Gordon; grandmothers, Myrtle Florence Bickel and Lucy Etta Brandenberg Gordon; siblings, Anthony Richard Bickel (Uncle Dick), and James Gordon Bickel (Uncle Jim).
Michael, a proud Navy veteran, was awarded the National Defense Service Medal in recognition of his faithful service to the country. After completing his military service, he carried that same dedication into a distinguished career in law enforcement. From 1979 to 1987, he served with the Cheyenne County Sheriff’s Department in Sidney, Nebraska. He then continued his service with the Chesterfield County Police Department in Virginia from 1987 to 2007. Throughout his career, Michael worked both in the field and within the school system, serving as a police officer and school resource officer. In every role, he demonstrated a steady commitment, strong sense of duty, and a reassuring presence within the community he served.
Beyond his professional life, Michael found enjoyment and fellowship in the pursuits that kept him active and outdoors. He spent time hunting and fishing, and he embraced the camaraderie of sports, including volleyball and pickleball—interests that reflected an enduring energy and appreciation for time well spent with others.
Above all, Michael was a family man whose greatest joy was being a loving husband, devoted father, and proud grandfather.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10am on Thursday, May 14 at Woody's Funeral Home-Huguenot Chapel, 1020 Huguenot Rd. Midlothian, VA 23113
