A native of Spartanburg, SC, but having been raised in Lexington, NC, Al was born on February 17, 1951, the second child of Miles and Colette Thomas. He was a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. In 1992, Al started his company, Thomas Marketing, Inc., which became a family business until retiring in 2021. During that timeframe he was very successful in growing and developing the company. His dedication and hard work were inspirational, leaving an everlasting impact on his peers.
Al’s passions in life were being around friends and family, football Sundays and golf. His charm and humor earned him many companions in his lifetime. Perhaps the only thing sharper than his short game was his wit.
One of the most important moments in Al's life came in meeting the Dise family, which occurred shortly after him moving to Richmond in 1979. The Dise family and he then formed an incredible, lifelong bond that changed each others' lives forevermore. To put it in his words, the Dise's, "adopted me".
Al was predeceased by his parents Miles and Colette, and Wayne "Pookie" Dise. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Karen, his son, Jake, and his “Adopted Family” Brenda Dise Mack, Kim Dise Trimble (Wayne), David Dise (Linda), and Monty Dise (Lisa).
A Celebration of Life will be held at Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Road Midlothian, VA 23113 on Saturday, December 6th at 1:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to a charity of your choice.
