Muna Abubaker-Johnson was born on March 1, 1968 in the city of Aden, in the country of Yemen to Lily Norman, nee Peters and Abdi Yusuf Aboker both Somali Nationals. Muna’s mom-- Lily worked with The United Nations Development Program, UNDP. She traveled extensively, thus Muna spent part of her childhood in The West African Nation of Liberia and attended boarding School in England. Her mother met and married Clarence Norman the then VP at The Bank of Liberia and had two children, Siad and Adebayo. Muna became a doting big sister who lovingly helped care for her two younger siblings.
The family settled in Riverdale, NY where Muna attended Middle School and John F. Kennedy High School. Muna attended Virginia State University where she majored in International Relations and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree and pledged Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. At Virginia State, she met Christopher Johnson who she married after graduating from college. They had one child-Kafia Tyler Johnson, now 21 years of age.
Muna worked for several prestigious non-profit organizations and held positions as Project Coordinator for The March of Dimes and Account Manager for The United Way.
Muna touched the lives of many, was deeply loved and will be sorely missed.
Muna leaves behind to mourn her loss, her daughter; Kafia Tyler-Johnson, parents; Clarence and Lily Norman, brothers; Clarence Norman Jr., Siad Norman and Adebayo Norman; sister, Jules Maloy, God-sister Kimberly Bradshaw, aide and friend Wandra Charles, as well as a host of cousins, aunts, uncles, Sorors and friends.
May her soul rest in perfect peace. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, November 7, 2020 at 2:00 pm at the Huguenot Chapel, Woody Funeral Home 1020 Huguenot Road,
Funeral services will be broadcast via Zoom and Facebook Live.
