

Ralph was born July 14th, 1938, to Ralph and Rachel McConnell. He grew up in Clinton, Missouri, and was the first in his family to attend college. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Economics from Drury University. In November of 1965, Ralph married Constance Frances Kazmierczak in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Ralph continued to live and work in Philadelphia with his family, until they relocated to Crofton, Maryland in 1970. A pioneer in computer systems, Ralph worked for the IRS, independent consulting groups, and then at the World Bank for over 25 years.
Ralph fostered his love of travel through his work with the World Bank and continued to travel worldwide with Connie into his retirement. Ralph and Connie retired in 1996 and built their dream home on the golf course in Hertford, NC.
Ralph loved to golf, play bridge, and cheer on his favorite sports teams, especially the Redskins and Orioles. He was a huge supporter of his three daughters’ interests, becoming a stroke and turn judge for their swim team and attending every ice-skating competition, ballet recital, field hockey game, lacrosse game, tennis match, and swim meet. Later in life he also enjoyed attending his grandsons’ ice hockey, baseball and basketball games. He was a lifelong stamp collector, becoming an authority on prewar German stamps. Ralph had a deep appreciation for fine food and wine, often preparing complex holiday meals with Connie.
Ralph was preceded in death by his wife Connie. He is survived by his daughters Stephanie McConnell Hornick (Dennis) of Upper Marlboro, MD, Jennifer Ann McConnell of Greensboro, NC, Amy McConnell Norman (Len) of Midlothian, VA, and grandsons Matthew Thomas Hornick, Ernest Lendon Norman III “Jack”, and William Watson Norman. He is survived by his brothers Mark McConnell of Albuquerque, NM and James McConnell of San Diego, CA and preceded in death by his brother Stephen McConnell of Walnut Creek, CA.
There will be a celebration of life held for Ralph at Willow Oaks Country Club on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association https://www.alz.org/.
