Obituary of Richard Patrick Steele
Richard Patrick Steele, 63, of Midlothian, Virginia, passed away from complications of ALS on June 4th, 2018. He was born on September 25, 1954 in Bluefield, West Virginia and was the son of Roy and Lyndall Steele of Roanoke, Virginia. A 1973 graduate of Cave Spring High School in Roanoke, Va. and graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Pat received a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering in 1977. He so loved Blacksburg and his Hokies. Pat was a loyal worker and supervisor in the Engineering Department of Norfolk Southern Railway for 38 years, until retirement in 2014. He began his career in Portsmouth, Ohio transferred to Roanoke and ultimately settled with his family in the Richmond area, where they have resided for the past 31 years. There were many accomplishments throughout his lifetime, but his family was always first and foremost. He is survived by his wife and childhood sweetheart, Melinda Taylor Steele. He is also survived by his son Andrew Steele and wife Rhonda of Midlothian and daughters Whitney Steele of Richmond and Mary Ashton Steele of Midlothian. Pat was also blessed with three beautiful grandchildren: Carter, Kinsley and Kerigan Steele of Midlothian. In addition to his parents, survivors include his older brother Tom Steele and wife Brenda, his younger brother Bruce Steele, mother-in-law Gussie Taylor as well as a host of cousins, nieces and a nephew. Many thanks and much love to our friends, our minister, Jim Dunkin and Pat’s beloved railroad buddies, who were faithful to him throughout his illness. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 12 from 2-4pm and again from 6-8pm at Woody’s Funeral Home, Midlothian.
