With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved son, Robert Matthew "Matt" Davis, who passed away on January 8, 2026 at the age of 49 surrounded by his loving family. Matthew is survived by his mother, Charlotte Parrish Davis, his father, Robert “Bob” Davis and his younger brother Marcus Davis and will be missed by all of his family and friends.
Matt had many passions which often defined him for a particular stage of his life. From a young age, Matt loved skateboarding with his friends and truly loved the bond that it brought all of them. Matt also loved playing musical instruments, from the high school marching and Jazz bands to playing in a band at an Irish restaurant and the Irish Festival. During high school and college, Matt fell in love with martial arts and quickly mastered many disciplines, becoming a black belt. After graduating from Clover Hill H.S. in 1994, Matt went to Virginia Tech where he majored in English and would go on teach after college for 8 years at Dinwiddie High School. While Matt loved learning, he decided he wanted to change careers following another dream to become a chef. Matt went to culinary school where he graduated at the top of his class before landing a job at The Williamsburg Inn and Resort. Ultimately Matt’s love for cooking led him to his last job at Wegmans, where he was a chef for the last 10 years. Over the years, Matt also developed a love for motorcycles. He especially loved to ride with his dad as they would often take short trips around Virginia as well as trips overseas exploring Ireland and Norway. Matt had many pursuits in life and always seemed to do them with great desire and passion.
Matt will be missed deeply and will always be in our memories and hearts. The entire family appreciates your love and support. Thanks for all of your thoughts and prayers.
A service and reception will be held for Matt on Wednesday, January 21, 2026 at 1 pm at Woody Funeral Home located at 1020 Huguenot Rd, Midlothian, VA 23113.
