

Smith, Robert "Monroe" Smith, of Amelia Court House, Va., departed this life on February 5, 2012, after a brief illness. As he was known by his family and friends, "Monroe" was a wonderful husband, father and papa to the grandchildren.
Monroe was preceded in death by his eldest son, Robert "Richie" Smith, and his only sibling, Virginia Elizabeth Smith.
He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Thelma Stables Smith, two daughters; Dale Henning and Lori "Kathleen" Setier of Richmond; one son, Todd Monroe Smith and his wife Kathy of Elkton, Va. He was blessed with 10 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and one due in February.
Monroe was a hard worker and joked that he got an early start when he helped Noah load the Ark. He never saw a stranger and loved to share his life stories with others. He credited his strong work ethic to the years spent at the Masonic Home where he was raised because his father died when he was only 6 years old.
Monroe and Thelma owned and operated a successful HVAC Commercial Business, R.M. Smith, Inc., T/A Huguenot Sales Company, of which he was President for many years. He traveled throughout the State installing & maintaining commercial and industrial equipment in large buildings, hospitals and schools. He was considered by many as one of the top large steam boiler experts in the state. Monroe held a Master HVAC Tradesman License and a Class A License.
He was a Freemason,, of the Amelia Masonic Lodge No. 101, A.F. & A.M. of Amelia Court House, Va. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8pm, at the Huguenot Chapel of Woody Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 8. A Masonic Funeral Service will be held at 2pm, on Thursday, February 9, at Mt. Hermon Baptist Church Chapel, in Moseley, with burial at the adjoining cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Masonic Home of Virginia, or Mt. Hermon Baptist Church.
