STOCK, Roland N., 85, of Richmond, fell asleep July 9, 2014, in the peace that surpasses all understanding. He was surrounded by his wife of 65 years, Emma R. Stock; his five children, Kathleen Slating (Richard), Mark Stock (Carol), Laurene Johnson (James), Michael (Cindy) and Carolyn Blaine (Jon); nine grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. Born in Milwaukee, he moved to Detroit. He met Emma, the love of his life, when he was 16 and attended Cass Tech Technical High School, a school specializing in the arts. He served his country as a Military Policeman in the U.S. Army under the Occupation Force in Japan. Returning home he and Emma were married on June 25, 1949, then moved to Chicago and studied at the Art Institute of Chicago. Roland began as a graphic artist with Reynolds Metals in a career that lasted 38 years and took him to Chicago, then Richmond, as the Director of Flexible Packaging. He was a loving and gentle man who spent endless hours with their children and grandchildren reading them comics, books, teaching art and the love of the ‘lilies in the field’ and faith in Jesus. He enjoyed golf, bowling and most important, family time.
