She was the devoted wife for 65 years of her high-school sweetheart, Dr. James V. Carpenter; loving mother of Kathleen (Wayne) Duty and Kristin (Bobby) Hopkins; and adoring grandmother of Tyler Duty, Jordan (John) Keller, Holli Hopkins and Kate Hopkins. She will live forever in our hearts and be deeply missed.
Mom was the heart of our home and family, known for her infectious giggle and a willingness to do or try anything. Be it a round of badminton in the backyard, a game of pounce or 500 Rummy, a ride on a roller-coaster or a hug in the kitchen, Mom was always there. She prided herself on spaghetti Thursdays, chili Fridays, chicken pot pie with a homemade crust and pineapple pie for Dad’s birthday. She loved her morning bowling league, Patricia Cornwell murder mysteries and morning coffee at Panera with Dad. Baseball, softball, soccer and basketball games for all four of her grandchildren were never missed, nor were Saturday shopping trips. Family was everything to her, and she was everything to us.
Sally was also known for her faith in God and her dedication to her church and community. She often ushered church services with Dad on Sunday mornings, purchased bread for communion, volunteered in the church office on Tuesday mornings, and crocheted shawls with the Thursday morning Prayer Shawl Ministry. Her kind heart and commitment to God and community shone through in all that she did.
A service will be held on Monday, January 13th at 1:00 p.m. in the sanctuary at Mt. Pisgah United Methodist Church in Midlothian, located at 1100 Mt. Pisgah Dr.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Dementia Society of America or the Alzheimer’s Association.
Mom, you will always be in our hearts and we will never forget you. We love you so much. Rest in peace.
