It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Stuart Allen Hall, Jr. on Sept. 5th, 2026, after a prolonged illness. He will be greatly missed and remembered for his exemplary life of service.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Stuart and Mary Hall, and his son, Mark Christopher Hall. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Dianne Spicer Hall, and his children, Jeffrey Hall (Colleen), Timothy Hall (Angie), daughter-in-law, Ashley Hall, and his grandchildren, Grayson, Maeve, Jack, Helen, Charlotte, and Gracie Hall.
A Richmond native, Stuart’s entire life was dedicated to public service. He served 47 years as a sworn police officer, both with the Richmond Police Department (1968-1995) and the Virginia State Capitol Police (1995 - 2014). His life of service began at the age of 15 as the first junior member of the Forest View Rescue Squad to ride on ambulance calls. He would go on to become a Life Member of the Rescue Squad with over 60 years of service. He was a proud member of the George Wythe High School class of 1964. He attended Louisburg College in North Carolina, earning an associate’s degree, and then graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a bachelor’s degree.
During his 47 year distinguished career in policing, he served as a Patrolman, Detective, Sergeant, SWAT team member, Honor Guard member, armorer, and firearms and first aid instructor, among many other roles. Hardworking and dependable, he was a mentor to all who worked with him.
Stuart was a devout member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Perry Street in Richmond, where he had served as a Eucharistic minister and dedicated parishioner for decades.
Stuart found joy in his six grandchildren and large extended family, who loved him deeply and spent many beach vacations and holidays together, happily enjoying each other’s company.
The family will receive friends from 4-8pm on Thursday, September 17 at Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Rd. A visitation will be held at 11:30 on Friday, September 18 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1400 Perry St. A funeral mass will begin at noon. Burial will take place at Dale Memorial Park at 2pm.
