After a courageous battle with cancer, Tom passed peacefully at his home, surrounded by loved ones. He is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Karen Christian, and two children, Thomas and Cara. He is also survived by his mother, Patricia Christian; 4 siblings, Eddie, James, Cindy and Debbie; Aunt Marilyn, Uncle Dan, and numerous nieces and nephews. Tom was preceded in death by his father, Tom Christian Sr.
A proud graduate of Virginia Tech, Tom received two degrees from the university, one in math education and one in civil engineering. After receiving his civil engineering degree in 1986, Tom began working for the Whiting-Turner Contracting Co. in the Richmond office. He spent his entire 27 year career working for Whiting-Turner. As a project manager, he was always proud of the work he accomplished for Whiting-Turner.
Tom was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was also a die-hard sports fan, particularly all things related to Virginia Tech sports. His favorite time of the year was fall because it brought deer hunting and Hokie football. Even when it wasn’t hunting season, he always enjoyed being outdoors, especially on his property in Amelia.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on June 28th, 2025 at Woody Funeral Home- Midlothian location at 1pm. There will be a short, informal service in the chapel at 1pm followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make donations to the “Eye on Grace Foundation” or “A Cure in Sight Foundation."
The family would like to thank Dr. Theodore Chung, Dr. John Port, the doctors and nurses at Jefferson Health in Philadelphia, Brianne Cohen, and the hospice nurses from Amedisys. They would also like to thank their family, friends, and neighbors for all of their love and support.
