

He is survived by his daughters, Kathy Stumm, Sharry Stumm Maddux, and son, Thomas W. Stumm; four grandchildren, Jessica Maddux, Rebecca Haug, Caitlin Blackburn and Zach Blackburn and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter Cynthia Louise Stumm and his wife Gloria Stumm.
Born in South Bend, Indiana, but raised through high school in Crystal Lake, IL, he had a great love of the outdoors. He went to college at the United States Military Academy. Following graduation, he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and served over 22 years before retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1973. He served in the Korean and Vietnamese wars and had overseas tours in Thailand and Germany.
He received a master’s degree in electrical engineering from Purdue University and served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electricity at the United States Military Academy.
Following retirement from the Army, he worked for over 19 years at the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC) as a Division Engineer and Bureau Director of Water and Wastewater Operations. Following retirement from WSSC, he spent much time volunteering on local and state organizations serving the brain injured community.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, July 25th, 11:00 am at St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church. A reception will follow immediately at the church.
