She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Joan Bendall; brother, Denys Bendall; sister, Linda Bendall Sauer; and grandparents, Marion and Virginia Bendall.
She is survived by her loving husband of almost 48 years Glenn W. Burgess of Richmond, VA; her favorite daughter, Allison Burgess Wright, her son-in-love, Dr. M. Jerry Wright Jr.; and her grandson, Spencer Jackson Wright of Crofton, MD, whom she said was one of the greatest things to ever happen in her life.
Trudy was born and raised in Richmond, VA. She was the second oldest of her siblings, Pat (Charlie), Linda, Denys (Gail), and Kimberly (Ken). While her childhood posed many challenges, including the tragic loss of her father when she was 15, she overcame them all and met and married the love of her life, Glenn W. Burgess, in March 1976. In April of 1977, Trudy welcomed her one and only child, Allison Marie, affectionately known as her “Alli Girl”. Trudy was a wonderful wife, an amazing mother, and a proud grandmother. Her smile and laughter filled every room she was in.
As the years passed on, she would become Aunt Trudy to her adorable nieces and nephews, Riki Anna, Brandon Elizabeth, Logan, Matthew, Cameron, Case, and Emily. Later she would be known as “Aunt Lips” by her grand nieces and nephews, Madelyn Elizabeth, Ellie Anna, Anna Beth, Preston, Kate, Ryleigh, and Brantley, all of whom she loved immensely.
Trudy was an incredibly smart lady and hard worker. Over the years she would work in several places in the administrative field. While Trudy worked with several organizations during her professional life, G.D. Package Machinery was her home away from home for the last 32 years of her career. In April of 2022 she hung up her executive assistant superhero cape and retired.
She loved her job and took incredible pride in her work. Her coworkers were an extension of her family and during her time at G.D. Package Machinery she forged many forever friendships.
Retirement afforded her more time with her grandson, Spencer whom she claimed hung the moon and the stars. She always said he was the greatest thing to ever exist, and she loved being his “Nina.”
She loved her many cats, vacationing on the Outer Banks, eating Mexican food (especially the margarita part), wearing big sunglasses, a popped collar, red lipstick, and high heels, her Mazda Miata, fake eyelashes, watching the TV show Friends repeatedly, a lot of ice in her Diet Coke, a good nap, and her black stretchy pants.
The family will receive friends from Noon to 1:00pm on Saturday, March 2, 2024. at Woody Funeral Home - Huguenot Chapel. A memorial service will begin at 1:00pm with a reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Trudy’s name to the Richmond Animal League 11401 International Dr, North Chesterfield, VA 23236.
