Wesley Howard Irvan, 81, of Lynchburg, VA, passed away Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at Westport Rehabilitation Center in Richmond, VA, after a hard-fought battle with ALS. He is survived by his wife, Flora Elizabeth Irvan; daughter, Jennifer Marietta Irvan; brother, Clarence Edward Irvan; and two grandsons, Matthias James Gorman and Josiah Wesley Gorman.
Born November 5, 1944, Wesley “Buck” Irvan was preceded in death by his father, Wesley Clarence Irvan, Jr.; mother, Mildred Wade Irvan; sister, Nellie Catlett; and son, Matthew Buckley Irvan. He was a proud veteran, having served in the United States Navy, earning the National Defense Service Medal as well as the Vietnam Service Medal.
Buck enjoyed kayaking, gardening, and most of all, playing with his two grandsons. The family enjoyed many stories over the years of Buck's poetic gifting where he shared his faith and his humor. He will undoubtedly be most remembered by those who knew him well for his devotion in caring for his wife and the time invested in his grandsons.
A service will be held June 20, 2026, at 2:00 p.m., officiated by family friend Steve DeGaetani, followed by a reception for friends and family. In lieu of flowers, Buck has requested that donations be sent to the The Salvation Army.
Woody’s Funeral Home, at 1020 Huguenot Road, will be serving the family. (804-794-1000.)
