Alfred Sterling Francom

He graduated from Highland High School in 1959. He served as Student Body President at Highland High School from 1957 – to 1958 and Senior Class President at the same school in the 1958-59 school year. He received both a bachelor’s and master’s degree from the University of Utah. He also served in the Army Reserve.

He began his career as an educator in the Church Education System, teaching Geography to students at the Church College of New Zealand. While he ran the Francom Advertising family business for many years, his passion was always education. He also taught at and raised money for various post-secondary institutions, including Salt Lake Community College, for many years. It was there that he was instrumental in working directly with Larry Miller to build the Larry Miller Entrepreneurial Center in Sandy, Utah.

He was actively involved in his ward and served as a temple worker at the Draper, UT temple. He believed strongly in his Savior Jesus Christ. He enjoyed reading, working in the yard, camping, travelling, taking long drives, and spending time with his family.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Alice Myrtle Solomon Francom, and his father, Joseph Stephen Francom.

He is survived by his wife, Matha Laree Peck Francom, daughter Jamie Francom Moesser, son Wade Francom (Heather Darrah Francom), son Brandon Francom (Sasha Pitts Francom), daughter Marni Francom Dawson (Dustin Dawson), daughter Heather Francom Fisher (Bear Fisher), and grandchildren Sophia Baker, Korbin Massey, Madeline Massey, Jonah Moesser, Morgan Massey, Evan Moesser, Xander Gresham, Robin Massey, Bree Francom, Ava Francom, Brayden Francom, Emme Francom, and Isaac Francom.

Family and friends are invited to attend a viewing at the Old Mission Road Ward house of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at 1430 E. Old Mission Road in Sandy, Utah, October 16th between 6-8 p.m. or from 9 to 10 a.m. on Friday, October 17th. The funeral will begin at 10 a.m. at the same location.

Interment to follow at Wasatch Lawns Memorial Park, 3401 South Highland Drive, Salt Lake City.
