Alice Marie Winger Jensen, age 99, beloved mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 6, 2013. She was born February 9, 1914 in Tooele, Utah in the historical pioneer log cabin that is now located next to the Old Pioneer City Hall in Tooele, to Joseph Alma and Grace Bowen Winger, the 4th of nine children.
She lived on a family farm in Idaho until she was in 2nd grade when they moved to Utah. Her parents and siblings made a good life during the depression on a farm where there was always plenty of good food and hard work. She loved going to school and learning, always achieving high marks and often sitting in for teachers when they needed to leave the room. She graduated from her beloved Jordan High School in 1933 and until just before her death could still sing the Jordan High School song from memory.
She met her husband, Boyd Jensen, while living in Fort Union. They attended many local dances and enjoyed courting with other friends. They were sealed for time and all eternity on November 21, 1933 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, enjoying 49 years of marriage. They were the parents of three lovely daughters; Joyce, Annette and J'Leanne. They had a close group of friends throughout their lives that they would enjoy dinner parties and holidays with.
An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served in many areas, especially liking to serve on the Stake Primary Board. Alice always had many friends that she enjoyed bowling with and having monthly club parties where they would visit, play games and have delicious snacks. She loved to read, garden, play games, receiving flowers, was a great cook, enjoyed watching baseball, and making the home her husband built for her into a truly lovely place. All of her family enjoyed gatherings and holidays at her home where she passed on the love for playing games, eating cookies with soda, laughing and making good memories.
She is survived by two daughters: Joyce Silvers and J'Leanne Ellis; nine "perfect" grandchildren: Debora, Mark, Deone, Tish, Travis, Lisa, Danielle, Aaron, Heather and 25 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Elnora Rodgers and Marilyn Cannon. Alice was preceded in death by her parents; husband Boyd Jensen, daughter Annette Long, and siblings Grant, Gladys, Hugh, Leone, Ruth, and Leland.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday August 15th at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Mortuary located at 3401 Highland Drive, Salt Lake City, Utah 84106. Friends and family may visit from 12-1:30 prior to the services. Interment will follow at the Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
