Alta Claire Meik was born December 18, 1920, in Welby, Utah, a daughter of James Patrick Meik and Mary Alice Armstrong Meik. She later lived in Oklahoma, Texas, California, Washington, and Holland before moving back to Utah, and made many lasting friendships throughout her life. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, she served in many capacities, including as Relief Society President in two different wards. She was devoted to her family. Alta married Harold C. Taylor on December 19th, 1941, in the Salt Lake Temple and later became the mother of seven children, six girls and one boy. Two of her babies died in infancy. She bowled in several leagues and won many trophies. Her pies were well known for being the best. Alta loved creating beauty both indoors and out and always made home a lovely place. Her handiwork was appreciated by many before she lost the use of her hands to arthritis later in life. Her legacy is one of making something beautiful out of often very little as she sewed, knitted and crocheted one-of-a-kind items that will be long remembered. But the greatest of her many achievements was that of unfailing love and service as she blessed the lives of others.
Alta is survived by her five daughters, Sharon Dawn Andersen (Thayne); Julie Kay Petersen (Glen); Kathleen Marie Bollard (Richard); Mary Lou Beutler (Paul); and Bonnie Jean Taylor-Kreutz. She is also survived by 30 grandchildren, 74 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday January 10, 2015 at 12:00p.m. at the LDS Richards Ward located at 860 E Dowington Avenue. Family and friends may call Friday January 9, from 6-8:00p.m. or Saturday at 10:30a.m. For online condolences, please visit www.wasatchlawn.com
