Mandy Hewitson, 89, passed away peacefully in Salt Lake City, Utah, on September 13, 2023. Mandy was born on June 30, 1934 in Trail City, South Dakota, to Edwin Frederich Voegele and Martha Magdalene Hoff Voegele. She lived with her family on the family farm in Trail City until she graduated from Timberlake High School in 1952. After graduation, she left home to pursue her dream of becoming a nurse. She attended nursing school at St. Mary’s School of Practical Nursing in Pierre, South Dakota. Shortly after graduating from nursing school, she moved west to Park City, Utah, where she worked at Park City Miner’s Hospital. While there, her future mother-in-law was a patient, and she thought it would be a good idea for her to meet her son, Kenneth Hewitson, and the rest is history. They were married and began their lives together.
Mandy worked as a nurse for many years until her retirement. During this time, she and Ken raised their family. She was a very devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Mandy is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her loving husband, Ken, and her children, Alan (Teresa), Mark (Lisa), Lisa (Bruce), and Shawn (Amanda). Her brother Leon of South Dakota and sisters Darlene and May from Minnesota. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, September 21, 2023, 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 S. Highland Drive, Salt Lake City, Utah. A graveside service will be held on Friday, September 22nd, 10:00 a.m., at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, where a viewing will be held one hour prior to the service at the mortuary.
