Aurelia Duffin

She was born in a one room log cabin on December 22, 1918 in Burton, Madison County, Idaho, to Conrad Ludwig Walz and Aurelia Emily Billeter.

Growing up on the family farm in Rexburg, Idaho, Aurelia often referred to herself as “My dad’s boy.” She learned to work from before sun up to well past sundown. She became an expert and well trusted horsewoman. From her mother she learned the arts of quilting, appliqué, sewing, cooking, and food preservation. Aurelia became skilled at the piano, fashion design, and dance contests. She graduated from Madison High School in 1937. She wanted to study fashion design in college but family circumstances lead her to Beauty School in Salt Lake City, Utah. She became a licensed beautician.

While living in Salt Lake City, Utah she met and married Max Herbert Duffin. They were married on June 11, 1941 in the Salt Lake Temple.

Aurelia was Max Duffin’s only date who completed the hike it to the top of Mount Timpanogos, Utah which confirmed his attention. Max and Aurelia enjoyed the company of many trusted, loyal, lifelong friends.

Aurelia served faithfully as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Working with the Boy Scouts and winning the hearts of 12 incorrigible 14 year old girls are highlights in her memory. Aurelia was faithful and diligent in researching, preserving, and keeping family history.

She is survived by her children Ray and (Darlene) Duffin, Barbara and (Frank Gerald) Clark, Milton Jay Duffin, Carl Max Duffin and Mark Richard and (Laura) Duffin, and three sisters. She has 13 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband Max Duffin and three of her siblings.

The family wishes to thank the many people that cared for Aurelia over the past several years, Kye Sook Song and Jim Palmer, the loving caregivers at The Coventry Assisted Living and Haven Hospice.
