04/12/1928 ~ 04/24/2010
April 24, 2010 our beloved mother died suddenly following a massive stroke. With her passing our world has suddenly grown silent and still where once, only a few days ago, a beautiful and kind spirit radiated her light on those around her.
Barbara grew up in Ogden, Utah the second daughter of George and Gladys Meissner. She attended Weber College and Westminster where she met her love, Byron Burmester. Together they set sail for a life of adventure that took them across the country. Along the way she had two children, a son, Fred and a daughter, Shelly. Barbara, was a loving mother who cared for her children with calm and gentle patience. She took care of her husband and supported the needs of her children but never surrendered her own unique identity as a beloved teacher and an active parishioner in the Methodist church. All through her life she shared her loving kindness with her friends and family. She became like a second mother to her daughter-in-law, Karen, and a sister to her sister-in-law, Anne. She gave tirelessly to causes that she believed in, like Westminster College and Philanthropic Educational Organization (PEO, providing educational opportunities for women). She loved animals and hiking. She loved to garden even to her last days. And oh how she loved her granddaughters, Ondrea and Jori. The gentile sweet love she lavished on those two girls was like the warmth of the sun as it first rises on a cool spring morning.
Please come and celebrate her life on Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at Christ United Methodist Church at 1:00 pm. Funeral at 2:00. For condolences see www.wasatchlawn.com. Instead of flowers, the family requests donations to the Human Society of Utah or PEO.
