Barbara Jean Dickson Jones lived a life defined by grace, resilience, and deep devotion to family. She was married to her eternal companion, Reid L. Jones, in the Salt Lake Temple on June 19, 1950. Their marriage was a partnership filled with love, laughter, and shared purpose.
Barbara was known for her sharp mind and amazing memory, which remained with her until the very end. She had an incredible sense of style, always dressed with flair and elegance. She took pride in being well put together—and loved to remind us, with a smile, that she was happily spoiled by her husband.
A survivor in every sense, Barbara overcame terminal cancer more than once, defying the odds and inspiring all who knew her. Her life was long, meaningful, and filled with purpose.
Barbara had a true gift for hospitality. Her home was always open, and her table always had room for one more. She made everyone feel seen, welcomed, and loved.
Barbara served in many positions in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout her life, including Relief Society President, Temple Worker, and in the Primary and Young Women organizations. She also volunteered at both the Beehive House and the Joseph Smith Memorial Building. One of her greatest joys was serving alongside Reid for many years on Saturday mornings in the Salt Lake Temple, where they lovingly welcomed patrons in the Temple waiting area.
Above all, Barbara had a deep and abiding faith in her Savior, Jesus Christ. Her life was anchored in gospel truths, and she faced every challenge and triumph with spiritual courage and grace. As she left this earthly life, it brings great peace to know she entered into a joyful and sacred reunion with her beloved husband Reid, their son Justin, and many cherished family members who have gone before her. Her testimony was sure, her spirit full of light, and her example of quiet discipleship will be felt for generations.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rufus and Catherine Dickson, her beloved husband Reid L. Jones, and their dear son Justin.
She is survived by her loving children: Catherine Hansen, Jillair Jones, Dow Jones (Katy), and Jennafer Jones; 14 cherished grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and three more great-grandchildren expected within the year.
The family also extends a special thanks to our adopted brother, Jim Stanton, and dear friend Raquel McMullin, who lovingly served both Barbara and Reid with selfless devotion—allowing them to remain in the comfort and familiarity of their home until their passing. We are also deeply grateful to the many ward members, friends, neighbors, and caregivers who offered meals, visits, and heartfelt expressions of love during the final years of Barbara’s life. Your kindness has been a sustaining gift to our family.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 11, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Wasatch Memorial Park and Mortuary, 3401 Highland Drive, Millcreek, Utah.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, July 10, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., and again Friday morning at 10:00 a.m. prior to the services.
Barbara leaves behind a legacy of strength, beauty, faith, and unwavering love. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and all who were blessed to know her.
