Barry was born on July 6, 1960 to Virgil E. and June B. VanCott. He was preceded in death by his Father, Virgil E. VanCott, and Mother, June B. VanCott.
He is survived by his brother, Gerald A (Lorri) VanCott and sister, Patricia L. (Kevin) Wilson, and 21 nieces and nephews.
Barry grew up in Glendale, Utah graduating from South High School in 1978.
Barry loved singing in the Choir and playing basketball and golf at South High.
Barry served a 2 year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to Minneapolis , Minnesota and returned home with honor having touched many lives there.
He had a love of God and Jesus Christ and often shared his testimony and spent most of his life reflecting on his mission.
Barry's life was not an easy one. He lived with Schizophrenia and carried burdens that most of us will never fully understand. The illness often shaped the way he saw the world and the things he said. Sometimes those moments could even make us laugh.
Barry was more than his struggles. He was a son, a brother, an uncle and a beloved part of our family.
His path was different from many others, but his life still added something meaningful to the people who knew him.
We believe Barry is now free from the limitations and challenges that burdened him here.
We believe that he is experiencing a clarity, peace, and joy that may have felt out of reach during much of his mortal life.
We would like to thank Monument Health for the loving care that he received for the number of years he resided there and for Hospice for helping Barry with the comfort and care in his final days.
Graveside services will be at 11:00 at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 Highland Dr. Millcreek, UT 84106.
