Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, Bella G. Kourtides passed away on March 10, 2026, in Salt Lake City, Utah from Lewy Body Dementia. She was 95 years old.
Bella was born on February 19, 1931, in Rock Springs, Wyoming, to Mike and Helen Sergakis Gaviotis. She was one of five children. Bella worked for over 40 years in pharmaceutical sales at American Bergen Corp in Salt Lake City, Utah and San Jose, California. She married the love of her life, Demetrius (Jim) Kourtides in Reno, Nevada, July 16, 1977. Bella was an active member of the Greek Orthodox Church, Cretan Juniors, the Daughters of Minos, and Athanasios Diakos. She also volunteered at the annual Greek Festival. She was an avid sports fan, never missing a Jazz game, loved the San Francisco 49ers, enjoyed playing cards and especially loved going to Wendover whenever she got the chance and was always a winner! Bella also loved visiting Greece and her relatives in Crete and Thessalonki. Bella always had a positive outlook and would always say, “just go one day at a time, that’s all you can do.” Demetrius (Jim) always made sure Bella never missed out and always provided her with utmost love and care. She will be sorely missed by all.
Bella is survived by her husband Demetrius (Jim), daughter Pari LeCoure, six grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, her beloved son Alexander (Zan) Kourtides, her siblings and their spouses, Gus and Annie Gaviotis, Joe and Liberty Gaviotis, Pape and Betty Gaviotis, and Elsie and Gust Sefandonakis.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation and thank you to everyone who helped care for Bella, including family, friends, Beehive Senior Care, and especially to Joy Javier who tirelessly cared for Bella these last two and half years.
