

Born December 5, 1923 to Lot Leo and Hattie Hayes Payne in Georgetown, Idaho. The youngest of six children. He was drafted into the United States Armed Forces in 1942. Stationed in Germany, he was a tank gunner with General Patton’s 3rd Army. Married Joyce Caldwell in the Logan LDS Temple, May 1, 1946. In 1952 he was again called to serve his country in the Korean conflict. He loved his country and never failed to fly the American Flag on federal holidays.
He retired after 33 years with American Oil as a laboratory technician. He loved flowers and took pride in his gardens. He had a great work ethic and enjoyed helping neighbors or anyone in need . He volunteered at Horizonte School as a truant counselor, and was an active member of the LDS Church, serving wherever he was called.
He was the father of James Payne (Lee) Salt Lake City; Daniel Payne, Phoenix, AZ Kathleen Payne, Salt Lake City, Leslie (Jon) Malecker, Salt Lake City. Grandfather to Lisa (Mark) Mou, Andrew Griguhn, Calli (Miles) McGann Ryan ( Molly) Hooper, Daniel Payne, Robyn Payne,
Mathew and Alex Malecker and Abbie Payne Great Grandpa to Skyler, Sean & Christopher Mou, Keegan James and Logan Grant McGann.
Preceded in death by parents, two brothers and two sisters.

Services will be held at Foothill 7th Ward, 2215 E. Roosevelt Avenue (1460 So.) Salt Lake City
