Bill Eugene Simpson passed away peacefully at home August 6, 2021, at the age of 95. He is survived by his wife of 71 Years, Sharon Haight Simpson, his son Brett (Justine) and daughter Shauna Smith, as well as his three grandchildren and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his daughter Kim Oliver.
Bill lived an amazing life. He graduated from South High in Salt Lake City and then, at the age of 17, immediately joined the US Marine Corps where he received his training in the 1st Armored Amphibian Tank Battalion. He took part in the first assault landing on Okinawa and later also served in the Korean war where one of his missions took him into North Korea with a group of British Commandos to destroy a critical railroad track.
After the war, Bill continued his life of service as a Salt Lake City Police Officer, a job he held for over 30 years. Bill enjoyed golfing, reading, and dining out with family and friends at new and old favorite restaurants all over the Valley. He adored his wife Sharon, worked tirelessly to provide for his family, and doted on his grandchildren and great grandchild.
Dad/Grandpa we will miss your laugh, your "well-done" hamburgers on Saturday night, your ever-changing lineup of "new" used cars and trucks, and most of all the stories you told about your remarkable life. Rest in peace and thank you for all the memories and for the amazing legacy you and Sharon started, and we are lucky enough to carry on.
