LaVon and I had more great fun when we would go to the store for yarn.  We would have so much fun especially when I would get lost on purpose.  We would laugh and laugh.  She made me feel so good when we were together.  I know she is with my parents keeping them out of trouble, if possible.  She was like a second mom to me.  When I would take her home, she would tell me to call MaMa when I would get home so she wouldn't worry.  I am going to miss her very much and loved her even more.

Lavon was my crochet teacher. She made beautiful blankets and afghans and anything else that could be crocheted or knit and she offered to teach me. 
I value the time that we spent together. She is teaching and I am learning, and we are both laughing. My crochet lessons were really fun. She had a delightful sense of humor.
She was a wonderful, sweet lady, and I miss her. She touched my life and I am the richer for it.

Lavon grew up in Price, then moved with her parents to Salt Lake City, where she worked for the gas company for 38 years. As a result, she knew people all over Salt Lake,  especially on the East Bench, where she spent most of her life. She never married, but cared for her elderly parents until they passed. She loved travel, and did as often as her health permitted. 
She loved her home, and the comfort it gave her to be in control of her life and her destiny. She loved her faith. She loved her friends. She was an avid yarn user, both crochet and knit.
I first met Lavon in 2006, when my parents moved from Florida, and bought the house next door to her. They became close friends, and Lavon soon was a regular at  Sunday dinners and birthday shindigs. She was generous, kind, and grateful for being included. We loved her company;  in fact, we simply loved her. She remembered all the details of all our lives, and inquired for updates about every family member and their pets. Her gifts always were exactly right, and gifts to her were always followed by lavish praise and thanks. She and my parents often went to restaurants together.
COVID is a hard time for all of us, but no one finds it harder than older people living alone. Lavon never complained, however. I am only sorry that she didn't live long enough to get through it, to the dinner parties yet to come.
Lavon taught me how to accept help with grace, how to appreciate the small things, and how to engender willingness from others. She was a remarkable social engineer, if you think about it. And a very good, very dear friend.
