Happy Easter Carol Lynne...



I am still sadden because you are gone
But your memory and spirit continues to live on

You were beautiful both inside and out
And all who knew you there was never a doubt

I will do my best to honor you in all that I say and all that I do by keeping my 'lists' and sending my 'thank-you's'

Until that time when I receive my call, I will try to stand very tall because after all I've been touched and blessed by a Paul

A day hasn't passed Carol Lynne where I don't think of you.  My home is filled with tokens of your love, kindness, friendship, and generosity.  Every day I step outside my front doorstep, I glance at your beautiful home and have fond memories of us chatting, while you meticulously cared for your yard and flowers.  

You truly were an amazing woman and gift from God, and I feel so honored and blessed to have shared your friendship over the past 9.5 years.  Thank-you for always making time for me, and making me feel so special and loved - like one of your own children. 

While my heart feels such a tremendous void, I will cherish every memory of the time we spent together.  I especially enjoyed our last visit together at Sunrise of Holladay.  You graciously welcomed me to join you for lunch that you were sharing with another resident.  While the three of us sat at the table, you kindly introduced me to your dining guest and also asked the staff to bring an additional meal and beverage for me.  You were so complimentary and appreciative of the staff and service at Sunrise.  When you were done with your meal, the dining staff returned to ask if you cared for dessert.  The lady for whom we shared lunch that day, asked for sugar-free ice cream as she was a diabetic.  I remember you were intrigued by the concept of "sugar- free" ice cream and ordered one for yourself to go.  Upon receipt of your sugar-free to go ice cream you graciously excused yourself from the table and our dining guest.  You kindly expressed that you and your neighbor (me) had some catching up to do.  Then we went back to your beautifully decorated room and talked for another 2.5 hours.  I recalled the sound of classical music playing softly in the background and a hint of the aromatic scent of a doTERRA essential oil. During our conversation you offered to share your sugar-free ice cream.  I politely declined, but you said you certainly couldn't eat all of it by yourself.  I chuckled inside as it was a serving for one, but nonetheless you proceeded to divide the ice cream for a party of two.  Then we both laughed when the plastic spoon broke in half, as we tried to scoop it from the Styrofoam container.  Once settled back into our conversation, we both were delightfully surprised at how tasty the sugar-free ice cream was.  I recall you stating you may have to order it again.  You then shared an antidote about how the chef at Sunrise always ensured you had your favorite ice cream and he took good care of your sweet tooth (at any hour of request); but perhaps you could occasionally try the sugar-free ice cream again.  

You always made me smile and laugh with your kind, gentle, and humble gestures.  There was such a beautiful innocence about you, that I found so refreshing.  One other fond memory of that afternoon while we talked was the story you told me about the television in your room.  You mentioned you rarely watched television over the past 60 years, as you always had errands to run and things to do.  "Who had time for television," you said.  You proceeded to tell me that the doctor recommended you keep your foot elevated.  As such, one day while you were resting and elevating your foot you turned on your television set.  You weren't exactly sure what you were watching, but you recalled that "t.v. sure had changed over the years."  Apparently, David came to visit that day while you were watching television, and he couldn't believe his mom was actually watching t.v.  He couldn't recall the last time he saw his mom sitting down watching television. Furthermore, he too wasn't sure what you were watching, but was a little concerned of its content.  You later told me how he wrote you a list of all the television stations that were more suitable to watch.  You further shared how you kept that list tucked close near a seat cushion or pillow, for future reference if needed - or at least when the kids stopped by (LOL).

I love you Carol Lynne more than you will ever know, and I will miss your earthly presence in my daily life - but I will keep you ever so close to my heart and I will always think of you fondly in my memories.  You truly saw and brought out the best and beauty in everything and everyone.  You exemplify the spirit of goodness and I will try so very hard to live by your beautiful example.  Of all the gifts you shared with me over the years, the gift of your unconditional love, compassion, and friendship will be with me always and a reminder of how I should live my life.

What a beautiful obituary and tribute to how special Carol Lynne was. I had the privilege of being Carol Lynne's hairdresser at Sunrise. I can honestly say she was my favorite client. I looked forward to seeing her every week! She was always so positive and genuinely  concerned for others, at the same time she didn't feel that great and didn't complain. She always had the cutest put together outfits! I know she is where she should be now, however I will greatly miss her. I'm so sorry for your loss.

When I saw the beautiful obituary for Carol Lynne it brought back many memories of baby sitting for your family when you lived in East Millcreek and even after you moved to Mt. Olympus.  I thought your parents were both wonderful and I have fond memories of each of you children.  It was nice to be in your home with you.  You probably do not remember me since you were young children, but it made me happy to read this obituary and see that the Paul family continued to be a strong and loving family.  That is a sweet legacy left by Carol Lynne and Bill.

Years ago when our families lived as neighbors at the foot of beautiful Mt. Olympus in Salt Lake City, I learned some important lessons from Carol Lynne.  We were working in the Relief Society Presidency together when she taught me that you could do things the "ordinary" way... or the Paul way, with "flair".  Ever since, I ask myself if what I am doing could be done with more color.  Sadly, we only had a few months together before Carol Lynne needed to be released to give Bill her FULL support with his fight with his newly diagnosed cancer.  What a team... what a family.  The Chase Family, like the Paul Family, truly look forward to those Heavenly reunions.
