Charlotte was born September 1, 1936 in Salt Lake City to Ralph A and Cora Nelson Sheffield. She grew up in the Bonneville LDS Stake, near the University of Utah, and attended schools in Salt Lake City. She was an excellent student. While still in high school, she graduated from a beauty enhancement course at a Salt Lake modeling school. After graduating from East High School, she attended the University of Utah, where she graduated a year early by carefully scheduling her courses over several summer sessions. She held many titles, including U of U Homecoming Queen, Miss Utah, and Miss USA. This last title gave her the opportunity to travel to many countries around the world, representing the USA. She also had many missionary opportunities being known as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her favorite title was The Days of '47 Queen, with opportunity to represent her pioneer heritage.
Charlotte married M. Richard Maxfield on December 19, 1958, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Together they raised eight wonderful children, and have at this time 54 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
Her world travels provided opportunity to acquire costumes from many countries and cultures, which she lovingly shared in her costume rental, Charlotte's Attic. She was able to donate thousands of costumes to the Utah Valley University, and Orem City's SCERA Corporation Drama programs.
Charlotte was a gifted speaker, teacher, singer, composer, and actress. She was often asked to speak to youth groups and Education Weeks around the country. She sang with the Tabernacle Choir for nine years. She was invited to replace the major female soloist (The Champagne Lady) for the Lawrence Welk Orchestra. She composed many songs honoring the Savior, her friends and family, and her heritage. With her acting skills, she appeared in movies and commercials.
Charlotte was a faithful and valiant member of the LDS Church. She held many church callings, and was known for her missionary zeal. She bore a powerful testimony of the restored gospel where ever she went. She was instrumental in some of the earliest baptisms in Russia.
She has left us a great legacy of love, missionary zeal, and concern for her family -- children, grand, and great grand children. She has blessed many with her music, her missionary work, her costumes, and her teaching. Her inspired musical compositions will be a lasting tribute to her talent and testimony of the savior, as well as her sense of humor, and her commitment to family -- This musical legacy will live on to inspire future generations, a lasting monument.
Charlotte is the oldest of five children. She was preceded in death by her parents, and by her sister Susan Proctor (Michael), and by a grandchild, Leah Maxfield.
She is survived by her siblings: Ralph A. Sheffield (Judy), Judy Keller (Ivan), and Stephen N. Sheffield (Dorothy).
