Coleen, along with her twin brother, was born August 21, 1937, in Salt Lake City, UT, to Parley and Daisy Spratling and grew up in West Jordan on her family farm. She attended BYU for 2 years and then graduated from the University of Utah with a BA in Home Economics.
She married her eternal sweetheart, Edward Thomas Hall Jr. of Salt Lake City, in the Salt Lake Temple on June 9, 1958. This began their loving marriage of more than sixty-three wonderful years, holding hands until Tom’s death four months ago. Coleen always served faithfully in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She and Tom went on a mission to the Philippines 2002–2004 and then served as missionary hosts at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building for nine years.
Mom took great pride in her family and home. She was everything one could ask for in a mother, grandmother, and friend. Her kind heart reached your soul and let you know she cared. She was quiet in voice and mighty in love. She always ensured everyone around her felt loved and cared for, no matter who they were. Her home was always beautifully decorated, immaculate, and well organized. She was an excellent cook, baker, and confectioner. All who entered her home felt the happy sanctuary she provided.
Mom loved to spend time with her family at their cabin near West Yellowstone, MT. She hosted countless friends and family members there over the years. She loved playing games, doing puzzles, visiting Yellowstone National Park, boating on Hebgen Lake, and making delicious food for everyone to enjoy. We will surely miss her famous potato salad on the 4th of July and English Toffee on Christmas each year.
Her quiet and loving ways were a beautiful example to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was always taking care of us, always patient, never quitting, hardworking, and self-sacrificing. Family was everything and will continue to be as she walks with us daily from the other side.
Survived by children Cathy (Scott) Clawson, Cynthia (Greg) Page, Sheree (Bret) Charlesworth, and Jeff (Julie) Hall. Tom and Coleen have twenty-seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband Tom, her parents William Parley Spratling and Amelia Daisy Steadman, and siblings Delwyn, Rela, Dorothy, twins Max and Maxine, Carol, and Coleen’s twin brother, Calvin.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 17, 2022, at the chapel on 6350 S Rodeo Ln, Murray, UT. There will be a viewing prior to the service from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. A link to the livestream services will be available on this website.
The interment will be at Wasatch Lawn, 3401 South Highland Dr, Millcreek, UT.
A note to our dear family and friends:
Due to COVID restrictions and the surge in numbers, we will reluctantly forgo sharing a meal together after the funeral since unmasked eating leads to the greatest risk of transmission. We know many of you are coming at great sacrifice of time and expense, and we are broken-hearted over the resulting consequence of decreased visiting time. We have agonized over this, realizing the passing of our mom closes a generation in her family and possibly a final opportunity to be together. We hope the viewing will facilitate cherished family reunions with one another.
The graveside presents an additional visiting opportunity and all are welcome. We love and appreciate all who loved our sweet mother and want to thank you for the influence you have had in her life and in ours. At the request of the church, we are asking that everyone who participates in the viewing or funeral wear a mask.
