Colleen Helgeson Clyde Child passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family at the age of 84 on October 15, 2014 from a pulmonary embolism. She was born on February 12, 1930 to Harold Martin Helgeson and Gudrun Gundersen Helgeson, both immigrants from Bergen, Norway. She married her high school sweetheart, Jerald Reed Clyde, and was sealed to him for time and all eternity in the Logan Temple. They were married for 40 years and had three children, Randall Clyde (Becky), Melinda Johnson (Joe) and Marshall Clyde (Rinda), before his passing in 1993. She later married Donald Manning Child, a kind and gentle man.
Colleen had a lively, outgoing personality and enjoyed teaching her friends and family fun Norwegian words. She loved playing the violin, listening to the symphony and opera and raising her beloved dogs. More precious than these, however, was her family whom she loved and cared for deeply. She was, as she often prayed to be, a good wife, mother and housekeeper. Colleen lived her life as a faithful member of the LDS church where she served in various callings. Among her favorites was that of visiting teacher, an important calling to which she dedicated her whole heart.
Colleen served two missions for the LDS church with her husband Jerry Clyde. (Birmingham, England and the London Temple) She also worked at Temple Square and the Relief Society building as a hostess. Her 18 years of service as a temple worker in the Jordan River Temple further highlighted her desire to be a blessing to Heavenly Father’s children in every way.
Colleen is survived by her 3 children, 18 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren as well as Don’s Children, Virginia, Gary (Jill), Roger (Christina), Warren (Lynette) and their families. She was preceded in death by her husband Jerald R. Clyde, husband Donald M. Child, parents Harold and Gudrun Helgeson and her brother Harry.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 18, 2014 at 11:00am at the Wasatch Lawn Mortuary Chapel (3401 S Highland Drive. A viewing will also be held that morning from 9:30-11:00am.
