On July 3rd, 2026, Craig Richard Homewood (60) was in his Sandy house, appearing to be resting, peaceful and comfortable for the first time since his battle with cancer began. Craig courageously and matter of factly battled his multiple cancers and aggressive treatment head on and without signs of fearing any outcome,
Craig was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on December 21, 1965, to his parents Kent George Homewood and Gloria Helene Haedke. He grew up in the Cottonwood Heights area attending Bella Vista elementary school. His family moved to the Willow Creek Terrace community in Sandy Utah where Craig finished out his schooling at Union Junior High and Hillcrest High school where he graduated in 1984.
After graduating grade school Craig joined the US Marines where he received training in helicopter repair. After receiving an honorable discharge, Craig put himself through school earning a bachelor's degree in engineering from the University of Utah. He joined the Air Force Reserve and spent most of the next twenty years assigned to Hill Air Force base in Northern Utah. Craig was proud of his military career and mentioned the satisfaction and direction the military gave him and he very much enjoyed helping a country he honored and respected.
Craig worked as a government contractor helping to create, test and implement many items through his career that mirrored his love of the country and willingness to use his education in keeping the country and the people secure.
Craig loved his hobbies and was a devout bowler which was a hobby he shared with his daughter Rachel and attended hockey games with the old Utah team and the new Utah team with his brother the last few years of his life
Craig married Sharon Carpenter in 2000 and together bought and lived in their Sandy home with their two children. Craig was a supportive stepfather to Russell Carpenter, and a proud father to his daughter Rachel Homewood. He was proud of both of them and spoke highly of how they progressed during their formative years. Craig’s mother Gloria preceded him in death by just a few weeks. He is survived by his father Kent G. Homewood, his wife Sharon Homewood, both of his children Russell and Rachel, brother Kent J. Homewood (Monica), Sister-in-Law Kristin Adams (James), Sister-in-Law Angela Carpenter, Brother-in-Law Philip Carpenter (Janelle), Brother-in-Law Gregory Carpenter.
Craig’s fight for life was painful, difficult and anxiety filled but, while battling through it, he showed poise, dignity and gave direction for anyone traveling through hell that it can be approached the same way as traveling the easy path. It’s just a matter of understanding that one path builds character, strength and understanding while the other path is just easy.
