Darrell Linn Allen

July 28, 1940 – May 23, 2025
Obituary of Darrell Linn Allen
IN THE CARE OF

Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park and Mortuary

He departed this vale of tears Friday, May 23, 2025. Darrell Linn Allen, 84, was born in Murray, Utah, July 28, 1940, to Jessie Mae and Elmer Linn Allen. Having endured the many indignities of a stroke and dementia for several years, he quietly passed, thus regaining the dignity he exemplified during his lifetime.

Darrell possessed a deep love of the gospel of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He would agree that a highlight of his church service came as Ward Financial Clerk, while serving under Bishop Harold Schmidt.

His professional career included many years associated with Univac-Sperry Rand working with defense computers and latter years dealing in mortgage finance. He was a U of U graduate, following his Mother, Brother Keith, and Cousin Wilbur.

Darrell spent his formative years in Utah, moving to Montana during his latter teens. His family had several mining interests in Montana, and he loved to work summers assisting his Uncle Charlie in several of the mines. The Nine Mile was his favorite, with a view straight into Canada. Darrell also enjoyed the beauties of nature while working in Yellowstone National Park. He lettered in football, played trumpet, and once presented his Utah Cousin Preston Allen with a beautiful bear rug from his hunting days for the family Strawberry cabin.

Darrell met and married his wife Jane while both were students at the University of Montana. East met West, as the story goes. They were married in 1962 in Cleveland, Ohio. Their two children were born in Montana before a move to Salt Lake City, the city closest to his heart. Nearly 50 years were spent in Holladay. He was so proud he helped round up many a signature resulting in the official assignation of Holladay as a city.

Darrell was preceded in death by his parents and by his brother Keith Andersen. He is survived by his wife Jane, sister Elon Nove, daughter Laura Vincent (Byron); son Mark Allen (Kathleen); 8 grandchildren: Geoffrey Vincent (Calista); Whitney Ball (Doug); Christopher Farros (Jesslyn); Spencer Vincent (Betsy); Benjamin Allen (Sarah); Jonathan Allen; Alyssa Stephens (Parker); and Samuel Allen (Lara). He is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren, with another expected shortly.

The family would like to thank the stellar IHC Hospice team that attended Darrell with such outstanding care and concern: Tina, Jody, Pearson, Ernesto and Valerie.
