Our dear son, brother and partner David succumbed swiftly to a virulent attack of pneumonia. He died peacefully but all too suddenly and prematurely, leaving his loved ones grief stricken and broken hearted. David, the third of six sons, was born in Rochester, NY and spent his first nine years in the suburban community of Brighton. After a brief period living in Bloomington, MN, he spent his teen age years first in Provo and then Salt Lake City where he graduated from East High School followed by studies at the University of Utah.
Since his early childhood, David manifested a quick wit to the delight of family members and friends. His sense of humor will be greatly missed along with his insatiable curiosity and thirst for knowledge.
David developed a love affair with nature in his younger years that he never lost. Earth Day, which serendipitously fell on his Birthday, was perhaps his favorite holiday. He and Jeani usually celebrated the day by hiking in one of his favorite locations along the Wasatch Mountains or in the Moab area.
He relished several diving trips with his family at various international diving sites.
David was a sought after guest teacher in high schools of the Granite School District. He was on the request list of many teachers and connected well with honor students in AP classes and struggling students in the alternative high school. His love of learning was contagious with students and his wit endearing. He followed in the footsteps of three previous generations of educators.
All those in his wide circle of influence will greatly miss David's thoughtful fellowship, stimulating conversation and genuine interest in the well being of his parents, brothers and their families and members of Jeani's family. Jeani especially will miss his loving companionship and shared experiences over many years.
He is survived by his loving companion of 23 years Jeani Mortimore, parents John W. Bennion(Liz), Sylvia Bennion(Phil Thompson), brothers Philip, Stanford(Kathy), Bryan(Lee), Grant(Jodie) Andrew and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of David's life will be held at the Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 South Highland Drive on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at 2pm. There will be a visiting hour at 1:00pm preceding the celebration.
