Born on January 29, 1950, in Bountiful, Utah, David was the son of Willis Edward Berry and Vida Marian Casper. From an early age, his quick wit, intelligence, and drive set him apart. He went on to live a life full of love, laughter, adventure, and accomplishment.
A true entrepreneur, David had a gift for business—starting, growing, and investing in numerous companies throughout his life. Two of his greatest companies were Berry Petroleum and Kaizen Capital, a financial fund. In later years, he found joy in mentoring young entrepreneurs and supporting start-ups, helping others achieve their dreams as he had achieved his own.
He lived by the philosophy of Kaizen—the Japanese belief in continuous, steady improvement—and often reflected on Einstein’s idea of compound interest: how small, consistent efforts create extraordinary results. David applied these principles not only in business but in every part of his life. He believed in learning something new each day, showing up with curiosity, and building a life that grew richer in wisdom, laughter, and love over time.
On March 25, 2005, David married the love of his life, Julie Kay Berry. Together they shared two decades of love, travel, laughter, and deep companionship.
Those who knew David will remember him as kind, brilliant, loyal, and funny. He had a sharp mind for business, a soft heart for family, and a mischievous sense of humor that could light up any room. He lived a remarkable life—meeting three U.S. Presidents and golfing with two of them—yet nothing made him happier than a simple BLT with ketchup. He loved traveling, movies, cars, popcorn, and a good joke. Above all, he adored his wife, Julie, and cherished every adventure they shared.
David is survived by his wife Julie, his sister Elaine (Reed) his son, Nick Berry (Sarah), and grandchildren Jyordan, JaCee (Zeffery), Lexi, Kaison, and Brexton, Jayden he loved them dearly. He is preceded in death by his grandson Jandson, his brother Roger, Charlotte Romijan Berry, and his parents, Bill and Marian.
David embraced Julie’s five children—Jen (Josh), Lindsey (Cory), Ryan (Jill), Jordan (Jesse), and Corbin (Loni)—as his own, and together they were blessed with 24 grandchildren. Family was always his priority, and he delighted in sharing his wisdom, curiosity, and humor with them.
A viewing will be held on Friday, October 24, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., with funeral services on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park and Mortuary in Salt Lake City, Utah.
David’s life was filled with learning, laughter, and love. He leaves behind a legacy that embodies his own philosophy: that the small things, done with heart and consistency, compound into something extraordinary. His family and friends will carry his humor, wisdom, and warmth with them always.
