David Arden Elliott Jr., lovingly known as Shawn Elliott, passed away on October 15, 2026, surrounded by his family. He was born on February 23, 1974, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Leigh Hardy and David Elliott Sr. His mother later married Brad Hardy, who helped raise Shawn and was a father figure throughout his life.
From a young age, Shawn had a love for adventure and the outdoors. He enjoyed spending time with his younger brother, Tim, and his sister, Breigh, making memories that would last a lifetime. Shawn was always drawn to the thrill of outdoor sports. BMX racing was one of his greatest passions, and at nine years old, he went on to compete in the Wheaties Gold Cup. He also loved motocross, skateboarding and snowboarding, interests he continued to pursue well into adulthood. Shawn had an adventurous spirit and a love for living life on his own terms.
Shawn also took great pride in his work as a general contractor. He loved what he did and found satisfaction in working with his hands, building things, and seeing a project come together from start to finish. His work was another reflection of his independent spirit and the dedication he brought to the things he cared about.
Family was an important part of Shawn’s life. Just shy of his 15th birthday, he became a father to his son, Zane. Seven years later, his daughter, Makyla, joined the family. Followed by his son Max and daughter, Malinda in 1998. His children were a lasting part of his story, and his family continued to be an important part of who he was.
Shawn had a fierce love for his family and close friends. He was someone who seemed to know a person everywhere he went, and he left an impression on the people he met along the way. He built friendships, shared experiences, and created memories that will be cherished by those who knew him. Whether through his love of adventure, his work, or the connections he made with others, Shawn lived a life that touched many people.
Shawn leaves behind his mother, Leigh; his father, Brad; his sister, Breigh (Ryan); his brother, Tim (Amanda); his son, Zane (Kylee); his daughter, Makyla (Russell); loving stepchildren; nine grandchildren; and six nieces and nephews. He will also be remembered by the many friends and loved ones whose lives were touched by knowing him.
Though Shawn’s passing leaves a tremendous hole in the hearts of those who loved him, the memories he created and the love he shared will continue to live on. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and never forgotten by all who were fortunate enough to have him in their lives.
