Dennis was born on February 22, 1941 to Charles LeRoy Parker Nelson and Rose Agnes Lund Nelson in Salt Lake City, Utah. He married Georgiana Last on February 4, 1960 in Evanston, Wyoming. Marriage later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. He graduated from Highland High School. He worked for 28 years for the Salt Lake County Planning and Zoning Department, first as a draftsman in the planning department and as a zoning inspector in the zoning department. He was a handyman that could fix anything. He loved drag racing and speed boat racing. He was an entrepreneur. He owned Nomad Boat Company where he built boats, especially race boats. He loved remote control airplanes and helicopters. He owned a company that sold parts and fuel for the airplanes and helicopters. He also enjoyed computers, photography, ham radios, water skiing and working on cars.
Dennis is survived by his wife Georgiana; brother Gary (Lillian); children Debra Gowans (Phillip), Michael, Charles, David (Christina), Brent (Samantha); grandchildren Josh Gowans, Trevor Gowans (Mary), Mandy Record (Elton), Shauna Gowans, Kaylene Gowans, Ashlee Nelson (DJ), Christian Nelson (Brooke), Brodie Nelson; great-grandchildren Camden Record, Danika Record, Brynnlee Record, Daxton Record, and Reuben Gowans.
Preceded in death by his parents, sister Rosalie LeVeve Bost, and daughter Elizabeth Nelson.
Viewing will be held Tuesday, September 12, 2023 from 6-8pm at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 S Highland Dr., Millcreek, Utah. Funeral service will be held at 11am September, 13, 2023 at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary with a viewing from 10-10:45am before the funeral. Interment immediately following the funeral at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
