Emma Joy Crockett passed away peacefully on January 7, 2026 after a brief illness. She was born on November 12, 1927, in Young Ward, Cache County, Utah, to Emma Houesly Nuttall and George Wilhelm Speth Jr. Joy and her six siblings she grew up on a 47-acre farm filled with dairy cows and chickens which provided her a childhood rooted in hard work, family, and service to others. These values stayed with her throughout her life.
Joy met her husband, Keith Ray Crockett on a double date and were married on November 22, 1946 in the Speth family home. They were later sealed for time and all eternity in the Oakland California Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on August 11, 1967. Joy and Keith were the proud parents of two children: Michael Ray Crockett and Rochelle Crockett Lake. She was a devoted and beloved mother of six grand-children, seventeen great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson. She never missed birthdays, created cherished family traditions, and frequently expressed how deeply she loved her family.
A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Joy often said that her faith helped her through times of trouble, like the passing of her husband in 2014. She served faithfully alongside Keith on many church committees and shared her musical talents by playing the organ and piano in her ward. In her free time, Joy enjoyed golfing with her husband, family, and friends and even hit a hole-in-one!! Together, she and Keith volunteered at the Senior Golf Tournament in Park City, where she had the memorable opportunity to meet Arnold Palmer—a highlight she treasured. Joy and Keith loved to travel and enjoyed a second home in St. George, Utah. They owned a Bayliner boat, called the “Crockett-Isle” and spent many happy days fishing at Flaming Gorge. Together they traveled to Hawaii and Mexico, creating lasting memories. She enjoyed shopping at Nordstrom, where she was well known and always stylishly dressed.
Joy was a lifelong worker who brought warmth and joy to every place of employment. Her first job was at Anaconda Copper Company while living in Montana with her sister. Upon returning to Salt Lake City, she worked at the Dixie Restaurant. After the family moved to Napa, California, she did office work. Keith’s employment brought the family back to Salt Lake City, where she worked as a hostess and waitress for Nero’s Restaurant. Finally, she worked with her daughter at Circulation Marketing, Inc until her retirement. They enjoyed shopping lunches (don’t tell Keith!} and seeing each other every day. After Keith’s passing in 2014, Joy continued to live independently in her home, where she enjoyed family gatherings, holidays, and traveling with her loved ones.
Joy is survived by her son, Michael Ray Crockett (Barbara); her daughter, Rochelle Crockett Lake (Dave, deceased); grandchildren Kimberly Klinkowski (Mike), Jennifer Davis (Fletcher), Alicia Cerva (TJ), Michael Speth (Kristie), Kyle Lynn (Kristy), and Elyse Lake (Bryan); 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grand-son. She is survived by her brother, Andrew Morris Speth.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Keith Ray Crockett and her siblings Dennis Theron Speth, George Letho Speth, Donna Speth Siebrands, Virginia Speth Nopen, Colleen Speth Obray and her son-in-law, David Lake.
Living up to her name, Joy was a bright light in the lives of everyone she knew. She was always willing to lend a hand or a smile, and she will be deeply missed.
Services will be held at the Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 S Highland Drive, Salt Lake City, Utah, on Friday, January 16, 2026, with a viewing from 1:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. followed by a graveside service at 2:00 p.m.
