Emmett graduated from South HS. He worked in the CCC for a year in Nev. He married Minnie Margrethe (“Jackie”) Gilbert 11-16-1940 in SLC. They loved hunting and fishing together with their friends and Children. They went somewhere every summer weekend.
Emmett became a master plumber and steam fitter. He was drafted into the US Army service in the Pacific in WWII. He was a founding member of the Mtn. Men of the Wasatch, a perfect fit, since he loved black powder rifles and shotguns and the people he and Jackie came to know. He got two Cannons!
He later joined the TNT club and met more friends-for-life to shoot with. He won many shotgun shoots. After he stopped going to rendezvous, he still took his cannon to concerts.
Emmett was an honest, hard working and hard playing man. He was good at everything he did, including being a delightful father and friend.
Emmett’s neighbors and ward members were good friends, visiting and calling, taking him food especially as he aged beyond his independence. He even became “active”, attending church regularly. It meant the world to him.
His grandson Mike mowed his lawn and maintained his irrigation system for the past 25 years. His neighbors Bob, Doug and Dennis shoveled his driveway, knowing he would blast his red Cadillac out no Matter what.
His wife and daughter Claudia Ann Ostler (Tom) died before he did, as did his siblings Edwin, Charles Barbara and Joan. Children surviving him are Patricia C.F. (James) Berlin, Emmett John (Holly) Heath and Ellen M. (Kevin) Barney. Grandchildren Russell Freeman, Michael (Maxine) Ishida, Emmett Conan Heath, Stacy (Bret) Burt, Carey (Cole) Mcasee & Macade Barney. His nephew Ed Heath learned to fish and hunt with Emmett, as did family friend Gary Rank, and Emmett’s kids and grandkids, and Conan Goodmanson. Emmett and Dave Butler shot together, as well hunted. They were friends, plus like father and son. Other friends thought of him as father/friend too. We hate to let him go.
A funeral and burial will be held Wasatch Lawn, 3401 South Highland Dr, SLC, Ut. 5-13-2011 at 2:00 pm. Friends may call one hour prior. Dress is casual.
Emmett was taken care of for the past 5 months by the Utah State Veterans Nursing Home. They were wonderful, all of them, so attentive and affectionate.
