Born in Price, Utah, and raised in Emery, Utah, Tiger later moved to Salt Lake City, which became the backdrop for a lifetime of hard work, deep devotion to family and friends, and countless unforgettable stories.
In 1960, Tiger began a long and dedicated career at Mt. Fuel/Questar. His journey was briefly paused when he was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1965, serving with pride as a military instructor for the Pershing guided missile program. He was promoted to sergeant E5 in just 18 months, which was a rare accomplishment. He took immense pride in teaching both U.S. and German military personnel during his service. Upon returning home, he went back to work at Mt. Fuel/Questar.
It was there that he met the love of his life, Cynthia. The two were married on November 21, 1970, and Tiger proudly adopted Cynthia’s son, Paul, shortly after. Together, Tiger and Cynthia welcomed a daughter, Gina, in 1974, and a son, Justin, born in 1977. The family built their life and made lasting memories in West Valley City before moving to Taylorsville in 2004.
Tiger was an exceptionally skilled welder at Mt. Fuel/Questar, eventually advancing to crew foreman, construction general foreman, and serving as an instructor for the company. He also shared his practical talents with his community as an instructor of welding at area colleges. Even after retirement, he kept busy working as a laundromat coin collector—a job he thoroughly enjoyed because it allowed him to hunt for and purchase real silver quarters. His work ethic was entirely defined by his personal motto: "An honest day's work for an honest day's pay, and everything else takes care of itself."
Beyond his career, Tiger was a true force of nature. As a teenager, he was an excellent runner who ran the mile race in high school. His endurance stayed with him well into life; at the age of 60, he successfully hiked to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and back up in one day. Tiger loved the outdoors, spending his free time hunting, camping, and riding dune buggies. When relaxing he enjoyed playing cards and spending time with his family and friends. He was always willing to lend a hand to friends, family, or even strangers, and he always had a story or joke to tell on any occasion.
Tiger was preceded in death by his mother and father, and 11 brothers and sisters. He is survived by his beloved wife, Cynthia; his sister, Lavona (John); his children, Paul (Marda), Gina, and Justin; and his grandchildren, Megan, Logan, and Skye; and his 6 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his daughter, Brianna, and her three children.
