

He graduated from East High School in 1951 and graduated from the U of U with a Juris Doctorate degree in 1962. He served a mission in Montreal, Canada in his youth and later served 3 more missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with his wife Patyra Gotchy Astin. He served in many church callings including working at the Salt Lake Temple for 9 years.
He enjoyed his military training and graduated as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army Artillery in Oct 1958. He rejoined the Utah National guard and was discharged from the military in Feb 1967 as 1st Lieutenant.
He worked with the Utah Supreme Court as a law clerk for Justice Henry Henroid. He later was hired by the Utah Attorney General by Attorney General Vern Romney and was assigned to the Utah State Tax commission. After working with the National Legal Board for about 10 years as a chairman of the board he was selected as director. He was a member of the Governor's Cabinet. He served on the cabinets of Governor Norm Bangerter and Michael Leavitt.
In 1959 Floyd and Patyra were married in the Salt Lake Temple and were married for over 60 years. Floyd is survived by his children: Lorrie Hendricks and her husband Peter Hendricks, Lisa Astin, Jed Astin, Heather Gottfredson and her husband Kent Gottfredson, nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
An open house viewing for Floyd will be held Friday, August 16, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park and Mortuary, 3401 S. Highland Drive, Millcreek, Utah 84106, followed by a graveside at 12:00 PM.
