Frank Henry Cutler III

He was born January 11, 1940, in Hagerstown, Maryland to Mattie Taylor Cutler and Dr. Frank H. Cutler. Mattie drove Frank and his sister, Dorothea, to Utah after his father completed his residency at Mercy Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland and was assigned as a medic in Australia during WWII.

Frank grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah. He attended Highland Park Elementary where he met his future wife in 2nd grade! He went to Hillside Jr. High, and East High School. At East HS he played the trombone in the dance band, the orchestra, and the marching band. He also played in the All City Orchestra under the direction of Ardean Watts. He drove an Austin Healy which was his pride and joy but gave it up to serve a mission in North Germany for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. After returning from his mission, he entered the University of Utah in Pre-Medicine.

He married his sweetheart, Celia Alston, in the Salt Lake Temple on June 28, 1963.

He joined the Utah National Guard and served the army at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. While in the army he attended the Army school of Drafting, graduating 3rd in his class.

Upon returning to Utah, he continued serving in the Utah National Guard. He attended Utah Technical College on a scholastic scholarship and completed a course in Machine Shop with a diploma in 1970. In addition, he completed a course of drafting at the Technical Engineering Institute in Salt Lake City. He realized his interests weren't in medicine but in Architecture and was enamored by Frank Lloyd Wright and all he contributed to the building industry. He acquired drafting positions with Glen A. Lloyd, Ronald L Molen, premier Architects in Salt Lake City. Frank designed and drafted many homes and buildings. One of his greatest accomplishments was designing and building a modern style home in the foothills of Bountiful. The home was unique with 45 degree walls and designed with a Frank Lloyd Wright flair.

Frank enjoyed playing the piano and learned to play several hymns and other pieces. Two of his favorites were “Claire DeLune,”by Debussy and "Brightly Beams Our Father’s Mercy.” Frank was also a life long train enthusiast. He was talented in working with his hands and demonstrated great attention to detail. These skills served him well as he loved building model trains and layouts. He worked with Bill Mellis, a model craftsman and admired his artistic endeavors. He could tell you the history and facts of most of the railroads which he loved to model. His favorite room in his home was his “train room,” where he spent many hours with the numerous collection of model railroad equipment. He also enjoyed working in the yard, pulling weeds and seeing the flowers he planted. He was a skilled photographer. A picture he took of a yellow iris was displayed at the Salt Lake County Fair. One of his favorite photos was of his granddaughter, Eliza, under a Magnolia tree in Knoxville,Tennessee. Recently, he enjoyed interacting with the family each night via Zoom. It was a time to cheer on dad and grandpa and let him know we loved him during his difficult days.

Frank was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was thankful for his family to last throughout all eternity. His favorite thing to say in response to expressions of love was, “Lucky Me.” Oh how we will all miss our interaction with him but thankful life goes on beyond the veil and we will be united as a family forever.

Frank is survived by his wife, Celia, of 63 years, his children Frank Cutler IV (Lily), Anne Prince (Edd), Dr. Carolee Peck (Timothy), Chris Cutler(Tarina), & Carlynne Cutler. His grandchildren: Bethany McIlwain (John), Andrew Prince, Aimee Graff (Tristan), Mattie Lichtenberg (Ethan), Thomas Prince, Abinadi Luna; Kate, Lucy, Molly, & Gwen Cutler. Eliza & Keira Peck. Great grandchildren: Ruby & Aurora McIlwain. Two brothers, Richard Cutler (Joan), & Larry Cutler.

Preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Dorothea Nelson, and children Daniel and Aimee Cutler.

All services will be held at the Olympus Stake Center, 2675 E. 4430 S, Holladay, UT 84124. An evening viewing will be held on August 14, 2026, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A viewing prior to service will be held on August 15, 2026, from 11:45 am to 12:45 pm, followed by the funeral service at 1:00 pm, with a live stream available at https://zoom.us/j/99910860767 .

Interment will take place at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 S. Highland Drive, Millcreek, UT 84106, US, on August 15, 2026.
