

On August 22, 1943, Fred married the love of his life, Helen Rufener. Together they raise five children. They were married for 67 years. Helen passed away June 4, 2010.
During WWII Fred served as a fighter pilot on the Fast Attack Carrier, USS Langley. His fighter squadron fought in several battles. During one battle he was forced to attempt a water landing after his plane was hit by anti-aircraft fire. He spent three days and nights floating in a life vest, surviving with no food or water in the South China Sea until rescued by a submarine.
After the war, Fred retired as a Lt Commander, JG, USN.
From June 1961 to March 1964, he served a mission locating building sites in Germany, during which time he was recalled by the Navy to active duty during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
In 1964, following the advice he gave his children, he furthered his education and went on to obtain a JD Degree from the University of Utah College of Law.
He is survived by his five children: Keith, and his wife Ardeen, Mark, and his wife Rochelle, Helen Sissy Davis, and her husband Gary, Thomas, and his wife Hope, and Matthew and his wife Mandy. Fred is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
He will be missed by those knew and loved him.

Funeral services will be Monday, September 9, 2013 at 2pm at the LDS church located at 4101 South 1925 East. There will be a gathering Sunday night from 5-7pm at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary (3401 S. Highland Drive) and one hour prior to services Monday at the church. Interment at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
