Boyd was born May 1, 1927, to Garland and Doris Pope in Salt Lake City, Utah. After high school, he enlisted with the Navy in August of 1945. Following his Navy service, he went on to install ceramic tile with his dad. On September 3, 1949, he married Marie Schultz in the Cathedral of the Madeline, Salt Lake City. It was a small ceremony. And that was kind of the way he lived his life; low-key, with compassion and selflessness. He was a chauffeur for Marie and her widowed sisters. They made many trips to Wendover and California. With his expertise in tile and construction, Boyd mentored his kids, nephews, and grandsons, and helped all his kids, extended family, and many neighbors with their houses. His career was in tile and construction, working as a tile setter and contractor, but he had a passion for the outdoors. He built a camper that would fit his family for several trips to the mountains for fishing with extended family and close friends. The family took several trips sightseeing in Southern Utah, Yellowstone, and Glacier Park. After he bought a boat, he took the family to Lake Powell for some fun times out on the water.
Boyd has gone to be with his Sweetie. He was preceded in death by his wife and parents, sister Beverly McAffe, sister Joylin Maul, and daughter-in-law Colleen Pope. He is survived by his five children; Greg Pope, Steve Pope, Kathy Farmer (Joe), Gary Pope, and Dave Pope; five grandchildren; Shannon Hacker (Donny), Tara Livermore (Drew), Chad McCarter, Danielle Mecham, Nick Pope; and four great-grandchildren.
