Born on February 21, 1955, in Ontario, Oregon, he was the beloved son of the late Jesse Blaine Holladay and Velda Mary Greenhalgh Holladay.
Gordon grew up playing basketball, doing track, and a variety of sports. He spent his time doing farm work, hunting down the latest record album, and having his 5 older siblings remind him how spoiled he was. Gordon earned his degree in accounting with a dual major in economics from Brigham Young University. His love for learning and precision served him well throughout his career, culminating in his role as Chief Financial Officer at SME Steel, where he worked diligently for many years before retiring on March 31, 2024.
Guided by faith and compassion, Gordon served a two-year mission in Japan for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His dedication continued throughout his life, as he held numerous callings, including bishop of the Valley View 10th Ward, where he tirelessly gave his time to uplift others. His service extended beyond his own community, as he volunteered in supporting and integrating refugees within the Nepali branch presidency.
On November 22, 1977, he married Lisa Garrick, with whom he shared a beautiful family, raising three children: Hillary Maxwell, the late Daniel Holladay, and Mitchell Holladay. Later in life, Gordon found love once more and married Evie Holladay in White Sands, New Mexico, a place truly symbolic of his profound appreciation for nature’s beauty.
Gordon’s greatest joy was found in laughter, conversations, and moments shared with his children and grandchildren. He had a brilliant mind, an endless trove of wisdom, and an uncanny ability to bring warmth to any room with his quick wit and engaging stories. He always had a perfectly curated playlist for any given occasion. His knack for finding deeper meaning in patterns and numbers was evident from his scripture study to games in the car with the kids. Whether he was playing early morning golf, watching sports, hiking outdoors, or gazing at the stars in the late hours, his passion for life was evident in all that he did.
A true people person, Gordon never left a gathering without leaving a lasting impression. He was often the last to say goodbye, always eager to connect, share a story, and make each person feel valued. His genuine kindness and radiant spirit made him a friend to all, a mentor to many, and a cherished husband, father, and grandfather.
Gordon is survived by his loving wife, Evie Holladay; his children: Hillary Maxwell (Mark), and Mitch Holladay (Tiffany); his stepchildren: Jennifer Young and Stephanie Macnaughtan (Brandon Ward); nine grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, and one step-great-grandchild. His surviving siblings are Doug Holladay, Kathy Freeman, and Janette Patch. Preceded in death by his parents, brother Gerry, sister Charlene, and son Daniel.
Though Gordon’s presence will be deeply missed, his legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
