Hal was born in Salt Lake City to Mark Walton and Frances Isabel McKendrick Walton. He is an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints; married Harriet Flockton Dunlop Lang in the Salt Lake Temple in 1953. Hal served honorably in the US Army Signal Corp during the Korean Conflict. Hal worked for the Post Office, then worked as a court reporter for the Third District Court for many years.
Hal was a man who ardently placed faith and family above himself, was a devoted husband and father, who always had time for his children.
Although somewhat shy, quiet, and reserved, Hal, loved meeting people and found value in each person he encountered ... an incredible listener, who had a gift for remembering details about people he met.
Mom always said they couldn’t go anywhere without Dad running into someone he knew.
Hal loved music, books, old movies, and theater. He filled his home with music, literature, and love. He enjoyed church music and often played with his father in church; he served for many years as a ward pianist.
He gave piano lessons in his home and at the Music Centre in Salt Lake City. Among his many church callings, Hal served as a 2nd counselor in the 11th Ward Bishopric.
Hal is survived by his children, Heather (John) Schoenfeld, Richard
(Carol) Walton, Frances (Jay) Brummett, and Scott Walton; brother David (Dorothy), sister-in-law Mary Lee Walton, nine grandchildren and, five great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Harriet; son, Robert; brother Gary; and granddaughter Brooke.
