“Granny”
1942-2013
Hanne, 71 years old lost her battle to cancer on Saturday October 19, 2013 at 4:59 pm at her home surrounded by the ones she loved. Our mom was born on March 17, 1942 in Cologne Germany, and immigrated to Salt Lake City Utah in 1960. She married Manfred Pelzer in 1961 and later divorced, but remained friends. Together they had three children, Manni, Conny, and Terry. She also became a Granny to five grandkids: Nick, Brooke, Tiffany, Cody, and Ian. She started her adventure here in Utah as a wife, mother, waitress, and beautician. No matter how busy she was with all her jobs, she always managed to spend time with them, take them to school and have dinner ready for them every night. Later her career took her to Qwest where she spent twenty five joyful years with some of the best colleagues she had ever worked with. She enjoyed her time there until she retired in 2008. Granny will always be remembered for her warm and welcoming heart. Her door was always open, never locked, and no matter who or where you came from, she was always there listening and providing a warm and loving home. She was known as Granny to everyone, neighbors, friends, family and strangers would all call her Granny. You never had to call to make sure she was home, you would just walk right in, and there she was with a big smile on her face; and if she wasn’t there you would just make yourself at home and get a bite to eat. When she wasn’t at home cooking or tending to her family, she loved to travel. If she wasn’t traveling to Germany, her family and friends would travel from Germany to visit her. She liked to take her company on all kinds of adventures in Utah, and across the U.S.
Hanne was an amazing Granny to her grandchildren. Every opportunity she had to spend with them she did, weather it was babysitting, going to sporting events, going to the zoo, or just playing games at her house, it was never a dull moment when you were with her. Granny was a big sports fan; her TV was always on a sports channel. She loved the Utah Jazz Basketball team, but also liked to watch football every Sunday.
Hanne always had a sense of honesty, sincerity, humor, friendship, and compassion for everyone she was with. She never judged anyone and loved everyone for who they were.
Hanne survived by her sons Manni and Conny Pelzer, daughter Terry Dennison, son in law Leonard Dennison, and her grandchildren: Nick and Brooke Pelzer, Tiffany and Cody Dennison, Ian Pelzer, her loving brother and sister in law Fred and Dinorah Goettig, nieces, nephews, and cousins, and numerous friends. A specials thanks to her best friend Erika Buervenich for all of her support.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday November 2, 2013 at 2pm at Wasatch Lawn 3401 Highland Drive, Salt Lake City.
