Jean was born on November 27,1936 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Kenneth and Dorothy Muffett. Growing up, she spent her summers at the family cabin in Park City. Jean graduated from South High School.
Jean and Melvin Colebrook married in 1957 and had three children, Janet, Wendy, and Gary. Deputy Sheriff Melvin Colebrook was killed in the line of duty in 1973. She later married Raymond Wawrzyniak. They enjoyed their combined families in Sandy, Utah. Jean and Ray started building their family cabin in 1974, near Oakley, Utah. Jean, along with family and friends, enjoyed making memories fishing, hunting, riding ATV’s and playing card games and horseshoes.
Jean worked as an accountant for the State of Utah until retirement. She enjoyed her Utah sports teams and watching football. Jean was an avid bowler, golfer, and enjoyed the poker club, with Ray and friends throughout the years. Jean loved to sew, travel, play the piano, and enjoyed studying family history. Ray passed away in 1999, and Jean moved to Riverton, Utah, where she lived for 20 years.
Jean’s life centered around her family. She was constantly on the go, attending many grandkids sporting events, church activities, family parties, and reunions. She never missed an occasion. She moved to Sagewood retirement in 2021. She always had a puzzle on her table, loved listening to the grand piano in the foyer, enjoyed cruising the halls with friends, and especially looked forward to family visits. Something very special to Jean, was her “sisters’ lunches every Friday for the last 25 years.
Preceded in death by her parents, husband Melvin Colebrook, husband Raymond Wawrzyniak, sister Marilyn Wright, brother Doug Muffett, and grandson Chris Eldredge.
She is survived by her siblings Phyllis Middaugh, Sharon (Jim) Muffett, sister-in-law Carol Muffett; children Janet (Leroy) Valdez, Wendy (Scott) Newton, Gary (Shauna) Colebrook, Val (Kathy) Wawrzyniak, Vicki Eldredge, 12 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren.
A viewing will be held Monday, August 5, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at the Riverton Park LDS church building,12998 S 1300 W, Riverton, UT 84065. Funeral services to follow at 11:00 a.m. Graveside dedication at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park and Mortuary, 3401 S Highland Drive, Millcreek, UT 84106, at 2:00 p.m.
