Obituary of Herbert Rij
IN THE CARE OF

Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park and Mortuary

Our loving Husband, Father and Grandfather, Herbert Rij has passed away at the age of 86.

We are mourning his loss but we find comfort in the love he had for all of his family and friends, he has left us a lasting legacy of his strength, wisdom, integrity and compassion.

Herb was born on December 16, 1938 in Delmenhorst, Germany to Paul and Marie Rij. In 1955 he and his family immigrated to the United States. Herb enjoyed playing soccer both in Germany and in the US. He played for the Alemania German Soccer Club. He met the love of his life at one of his soccer games. In 1960, he married Renate Eva Hennig. They were happily married for 64 years.

He served in both the US Army and the National Guard. Herb was a Machinist by trade in Germany and continued to use those skills in his career path in the US. He started working at a small manufacturing company. That company later became Blanchard Metals and Processing Co. He dedicated himself to the business and became the Owner and President. He spent his life growing Blanchard Metals into what it remains to be today. He was a wealth of knowledge in the Metal Finishing and Manufacturing industry. He was a true leader. Herb made a lasting impact on not only his family, but his many co-workers, employees, and friends. He was loved.

He enjoyed spending weekends and holidays at the cabin that he and his parents had built. Later he found happiness soaking in the sun and playing golf in St. George. He also loved to travel and cruise the world.

Herb is survived by his wife Renate and their children: Steven Rij (Leesa) and Kristy Madsen (Richard), along with 4 Grandchildren: Steven Paul Rij, Christopher Rij, Braeden Madsen and Cody Madsen.

He is preceded in death by his sister, Ilse, and his parents: Paul and Marie Rij.

A private family graveside service will be held.

A Celebration of Life, for all who knew and loved him, will be held at a later date.
